BYLTHM Mini Reviews

Because You Love to Hate Me Anthology

bylthmThis was such a fun read! This is an anthology full of re-imagined stories of villains, both
that we know and that we may not know. What made this even more fun was that it was a collaboration between 13 authors and 13 BookTubers!! 😀 Each of the BookTubers gave a prompt to their author partner and then the author created the story! Additionally, after each short story, the BookTuber got to add a supplemental piece at the end of each short story.

A lot of these BookTubers I have been following for quite some time, so it was so fun to be able to support them in this next venture! This is also a dynamic group of authors, so it made the reading all the more fun!! I am going to write some mini reviews for each of the stories – I hope you all enjoy!! 🙂

#TomeTopple Read-A-Thon | TBR

tome topple

This is definitely quite belated, but I am going to be participating in the #TomeTopple, which was created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes! The read-a-thon runs from August 4th to August 17th, and is all about reading big books (those with 500+ pages). I am so excited to participate!! I am always a fan of big books and I am always looking for excuses to read more! 🙂

This read-a-thon has some challenges:

  • Read more than one Tome (500+ pages)
  • Read a graphic novel
  • Read a tome that is part of a series
  • Read an adult novel
  • Buddy-read a tome

I will not be able to complete all of these challenges, but I do hope to complete most of the challenges. With that, here is my TBR for this read-a-thon:

  • Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor (532 pages)
  • A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab (512 pages)
  • Full Metal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa (576 pages)

These are all books that I am excited to get to, so why not use this read-a-thon as an excuse to finally read these books? 🙂 I do have another tentative audiobook that I am thinking about getting to – but I’ll update y’all at the end of the read-a-thon if I even get to it.

So, there’s that! 🙂 Are any of you going to be participating in the #TomeTopple read-a-thon? If so, then what will you be reading? Good luck to everyone who will be participating in the read-a-thon! 😀

2017 BookTube-A-Thon TBR

Look! It’s back! Back again! BookTube-A-Thon 2017!!!! The BookTube-A-Thon is running this year from July 24th-30th and I am so excited to get started!! I participated, just barely, in the BookTube-A-Thon last year and I didn’t do quite as well as I had hoped. I am definitely hoping for better this year! I definitely have quite the TBR for the week, but before I get into that, let me link the main video with the “Reading Challenges” for the week below!

And now for my overly ambitious TBR for the 2017 BookTube-A-Thon!! booktubeathon2017

  1. Read a book with a person on the cover
    • For this challenge, I will be reading “Windwitch” by Susan Dennard! I am so excited to finally be back in this series again!!
  2. Read a hyped book Continue reading

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag ;)

mid year book freak out tag

It’s July. Of 2017. Already. Commence freak out!

I don’t know about y’all, but I am still so confounded about how it’s already half way through the year! 2017 has been a great year of reading so far for me and I’m happy to share that I’m about halfway to my reading goal! So I thought this would be a fun way to look behind at the reading that I’ve done and look ahead to what I’m still exciting to read!

I’ve seen this tag circulating around the BookTube for a little while now, so I decided to bring it to our little blog home! I’ll link below a few videos that I enjoyed watching and inspired me to do this tag. With that being said, let’s get on with the questions!

  1. Best book of 2017 so far // I think I’m going to have to go with Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I’ve reviewed this book here on the blog already, but let me tell you…this was stunning, it made me feel all the feels and I think everyone needs to read this!!
  2. Best sequel of 2017 // I think hands down it’s going to have to be Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. This was incredible for so many reasons, I’ve reviewed this book here too! This was such a huge sophisticated jump for Cassandra Clare and I adored it!
  3. A new release I haven’t read yet // I think this has to go to Strange the strange the dreamerDreamer by Laini Taylor. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews, so I definitely know I need to get to this ASAP!
  4. Your most anticipated release for the second half of the year // Most of my most anticipated releases have already come out and I’ve read them, but I am also really excited for Warcross by Marie Lu. I’ve just started reading Marie Lu’s other books and have been really enjoying them, so I cannot wait to pick up another one of hers later this year.

Festive Christmas Book Tag

Hello readers!! I know that we’ve been a little…or a lot…MIA on our blog here. Life just gets hectic with two of us in grad school and the other who got beyond busy with work. Le sigh… We will definitely be making a bigger effort in the New Year to bring back the same content that you have come to love and enjoy in our little corner of the book blogging community! 🙂

That being said! I thought I’d do the Festive Christmas Book Tag that I’ve seen circulating around the BookTube!! How appropriate with the holidays coming up – I thought this was a fun little addition to our blog this month! I got these questions off of JesseTheReaders’ video and you should definitely check his (and his channel) out!! 🙂

  1. Fictional family that you’d like to have dinner with // I definitely have to say the Weasley family!! I mean, come on! Who doesn’t want dinner made by Mrs. Weasley, chat Ministry gossip with Mr. Weasley and banter around with all the Weasley children?
  2. A bookish item that you’d like to receive as a gift // I would almost hate to bring up Harry Potter again, but who doesn’t want a Time Turner? Am I right?!
  3. A fictional character that you think would make the perfect elf // For some reason, I thought of Cat from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell? I think this because Cat, to me, appears to be someone that enjoys making people happy, but doesn’t want the attention. She is happy with the behind the scenes business of it all.
  4. Match a book to its perfect Christmas song // Since I’m reading it, a part of me wants to connect Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo to “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”…haha!! Only because it’s a band of convicts attempting to pull off an impossible heist.
  5. A book or character that you’ve been disappointed in that deserves to be on the “Naughty List” // I’d have to go with Nightfall by Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinski… I was so disappointed in this when I read this in October. The premise sets it up to be so eerie and creepy, but it ended up leaving me wanting more at the end.
  6. A book or character that deserves that you think deserves more love and appreciation and deserves to be on the “Nice List” // Definitely, the Amulet graphic novel series! I’m still working my way through this, but I don’t think this series gets enough love. I think the artwork is phenomenal, the story is so much fun and the characters have such depth!
  7. my-true-love-gave-to-meRed, gold, and green…a book cover that has a wonderfully Christmas feel to it // Is it too obvious to go with My True Love Gave To Me? 😉
  8. A book or series that you love so much that you want everyone to find it under their tree this year // I’d have to go with the Lunar Chronicles!!! Love love love! And I want everyone else to love them too! 🙂

Well, I hope you all enjoyed that fun little book tag! 🙂 I hope everyone is having a wonderful December and enjoying some great winter reads! 🙂

HoF (ToG #3)

Heir of Fire (#3) by Sarah J. Maas

heir-of-fireOh boy…these Throne of Glass books just keep getting better AND better!! This was fantastic!! This book and series are reminding me of why I love high fantasy books, so it’s been really fun to get into these books to feed that love of high fantasy again.

I definitely cannot get much deeper into this review without spoiling this series for y’all, so my readers digest version of my review is: Like I said, this series definitely gets better and better, so keep reading! The world keeps getting bigger and more built out, which was so much fun to read – not super overwhelming which was nice. There was so much more character development and context building. Super action-packed and even built some political intrigue, which was another fun layer to be added into this story. I definitely recommend! Now onto the spoiler-y bits!! 🙂

The Assassin’s Blade (ToG #0.1-0.5)

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

the assassin's bladeAfter reading “Crown of Midnight” by Sarah J. Maas and while awaiting the next two books in the series that I had ordered, I FINALLY borrowed “The Assassin’s Blade” from my library via ebook. I’m usually a hit or miss person with novella bind-ups and I tend to think that you don’t need them when an author releases them. With this particular bind-up, I did it purely to satiate my need for this series and I have found myself loving the stories. They definitely give Celaena a lot more depth as a character, which almost makes me appreciate the first book even more. So for this review, like my last novella bind-up review, I’ll do mini reviews of each of the stories in the bind-up. And yes, I will definitely be purchasing this bind-up…I can’t help it 🙂
