Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag ;)

mid year book freak out tag

It’s July. Of 2017. Already. Commence freak out!

I don’t know about y’all, but I am still so confounded about how it’s already half way through the year! 2017 has been a great year of reading so far for me and I’m happy to share that I’m about halfway to my reading goal! So I thought this would be a fun way to look behind at the reading that I’ve done and look ahead to what I’m still exciting to read!

I’ve seen this tag circulating around the BookTube for a little while now, so I decided to bring it to our little blog home! I’ll link below a few videos that I enjoyed watching and inspired me to do this tag. With that being said, let’s get on with the questions!

  1. Best book of 2017 so far // I think I’m going to have to go with Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I’ve reviewed this book here on the blog already, but let me tell you…this was stunning, it made me feel all the feels and I think everyone needs to read this!!
  2. Best sequel of 2017 // I think hands down it’s going to have to be Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. This was incredible for so many reasons, I’ve reviewed this book here too! This was such a huge sophisticated jump for Cassandra Clare and I adored it!
  3. A new release I haven’t read yet // I think this has to go to Strange the strange the dreamerDreamer by Laini Taylor. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews, so I definitely know I need to get to this ASAP!
  4. Your most anticipated release for the second half of the year // Most of my most anticipated releases have already come out and I’ve read them, but I am also really excited for Warcross by Marie Lu. I’ve just started reading Marie Lu’s other books and have been really enjoying them, so I cannot wait to pick up another one of hers later this year.

Festive Christmas Book Tag

Hello readers!! I know that we’ve been a little…or a lot…MIA on our blog here. Life just gets hectic with two of us in grad school and the other who got beyond busy with work. Le sigh… We will definitely be making a bigger effort in the New Year to bring back the same content that you have come to love and enjoy in our little corner of the book blogging community! 🙂

That being said! I thought I’d do the Festive Christmas Book Tag that I’ve seen circulating around the BookTube!! How appropriate with the holidays coming up – I thought this was a fun little addition to our blog this month! I got these questions off of JesseTheReaders’ video and you should definitely check his (and his channel) out!! 🙂

  1. Fictional family that you’d like to have dinner with // I definitely have to say the Weasley family!! I mean, come on! Who doesn’t want dinner made by Mrs. Weasley, chat Ministry gossip with Mr. Weasley and banter around with all the Weasley children?
  2. A bookish item that you’d like to receive as a gift // I would almost hate to bring up Harry Potter again, but who doesn’t want a Time Turner? Am I right?!
  3. A fictional character that you think would make the perfect elf // For some reason, I thought of Cat from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell? I think this because Cat, to me, appears to be someone that enjoys making people happy, but doesn’t want the attention. She is happy with the behind the scenes business of it all.
  4. Match a book to its perfect Christmas song // Since I’m reading it, a part of me wants to connect Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo to “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”…haha!! Only because it’s a band of convicts attempting to pull off an impossible heist.
  5. A book or character that you’ve been disappointed in that deserves to be on the “Naughty List” // I’d have to go with Nightfall by Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinski… I was so disappointed in this when I read this in October. The premise sets it up to be so eerie and creepy, but it ended up leaving me wanting more at the end.
  6. A book or character that deserves that you think deserves more love and appreciation and deserves to be on the “Nice List” // Definitely, the Amulet graphic novel series! I’m still working my way through this, but I don’t think this series gets enough love. I think the artwork is phenomenal, the story is so much fun and the characters have such depth!
  7. my-true-love-gave-to-meRed, gold, and green…a book cover that has a wonderfully Christmas feel to it // Is it too obvious to go with My True Love Gave To Me? 😉
  8. A book or series that you love so much that you want everyone to find it under their tree this year // I’d have to go with the Lunar Chronicles!!! Love love love! And I want everyone else to love them too! 🙂

Well, I hope you all enjoyed that fun little book tag! 🙂 I hope everyone is having a wonderful December and enjoying some great winter reads! 🙂

Hamilton Book Tag

So, I have been listening to the Hamilton soundtrack non-stop for a little while now. It is very obvious that I am obsessed and rightfully so! This soundtrack is incredible and I am counting down the days till I can see it live! If you haven’t taken a listen to this soundtrack, I 100% recommend that you start like yesterday! Hamilton is a Broadway musical written by the incredible Lin Minuel-Miranda and was inspired by the 2004 biography. This musical is innovative filled with hip-hop, rap, and jazz all while still incorporating the Broadway sound and feel.

I stumbled upon this Hamilton Book Tag amongst BookTube and I decided that I had to do this, as it’s combining two of my favorite things at the moment. I watched Maureen’s original video, and then Christine’s video – both super well done. So, I decided to take a turn at it.

There will be some spoilers for a few books in this post, so I would say read with caution. Spoilers will be present for the Harry Potter series and the Divergent trilogy.

Summer Reader Book Tag :)

summer book tag

So, I saw one of my favorite BookTubers, Jesse, do this tag and I thought it would be fun to do the same here! I will link Jesses’ video here and you should definitely check it out! 🙂 Without further ado, here is the tag!

1. Lemonade – Pick a book that started off bitter, but got better.

Christina: The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen – Just like any high-fantasy series, this book definitely started super slowly. There was a lot of world building that the reader definitely needed patience to push through to see past the world building into the story. As the story went on, however, I started to feel more excited for where this trilogy is going to go! 🙂

Rachel: Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky – This was my first foray into Russian Literature, and it definitely took some time to get used to. A slow start made it’s way to a fantastic story.

2. Golden Sun – Pick a book that made you smile beyond compare.

Christina: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling – When I was looking through the list of books that I’ve read in the last year or so, I almost forgot about how much this book made me smile. This was my first audiobook experience and it was definitely the best audiobook experience that I could’ve asked for! 😀 Narrated by Mindy, the book made me smile, laugh, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
