Hello readers!! Where did August go?! Not only are we a little sad that summer is coming to an end, we are all awaiting the start of the new school year. Both Amelia and Ranie will both be busy with grad school work and Mina is always excited for the start of a new school year, full of new opportunities and new students! With that, here is the wrap up for the month and the challenge for this month was: historical fiction. Check out what we read!
Christina: Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
I have been excited to read this for a long time and I thought that this month’s challenge made for the perfect excuse to finally pick it up. If I could describe this book in one word, it would be: heartbreaking. This book follows four teenagers during one of the greatest tragedies in maritime history in 1945. The book switched POV’s between the four teenagers, so we got to see the event from each of their experiences. It was heartbreaking to read about all that each of the characters had lost during this terrible time, and the secrets that each of them had to carry through their journey. The only reason why this wasn’t a 5-star book was that I didn’t fully understand the addition of one of the POV’s…? I did feel that this POV was distracting a bit and felt slightly unnecessary, but aside from that – I loved this book and highly recommend it!!
Rachel: The North Water by Ian McGuire
Ultimately a different choice than what I originally planned. I already
wrote a review on this one…you can find it here!
